Unsere Mission

Unsere Mission: Exzellente Forschung und inspirierende Lernerfahrungen für Naturschutz im 21. Jahrhundert um „Persönlichkeiten, Institutionen und Gesellschaften im Management von Schutzgebieten zu unterstützen“. Dies ist der Auftrag des UNESCO Lehrstuhls für Nachhaltiges Management von Schutzgebieten an der CU Hochschule Kärnten.
Der UNESCO Lehrstuhl wird von FH-Professor Michael Jungmeier geleitet. Er ist Professor für Naturschutz und Nachhaltigkeit. Er verfügt über mehr als 30 Jahre internationale Berufserfahrung im Naturschutz, insbesondere in der Planung und im Management von Schutzgebieten, wie Naturparken, Nationalparken oder Natura 2000 Gebieten.
Die UNESCO ist die Organisation der Vereinten Nationen für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Kultur. Sie hat 1992 das Programm der UNESCO-Lehrstühle ins Leben gerufen. Die CU Hochschule Kärnten ist daher ein aktives Mitglied des globalen UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programms. Dieses umfasst derzeit 850 Institutionen in 117 Ländern. Wir sind stolz auf diese Partnerschaften.
Der UNESCO Lehrstuhl wurde 2020 eingerichtet. Er hat sich zu einem international sichtbaren Zentrum für Exzellenz, Innovation und neue Technologien im Naturschutz entwickelt. Die Aktivitäten des Lehrstuhls basieren auf einem interdisziplinären, ganzheitlichen und integrierten Verständnis von Schutzgebieten, wie es von UNESCO-Biosphärenreservaten, UNESCO-Welterbestätten und UNESCO-Geoparks vertreten und vorgelebt wird. So werden Biodiversität, Klimaschutz und eine nachhaltige Entwicklung (SDGs) durch Forschung und Weiterbildung unterstützt.
Weiterbildung & Ausbildungsangebot
Unseren Studierenden bieten wir einzigartige Lernerfahrungen zum Thema Biodiversitäts-, Klima- und Naturschutz sowie nachhaltige Entwicklung.
Durch spannende Lernformate, innovative Didaktik und ein professionelles Lernumfeld wollen wir Studierende und Lehrende gleichermaßen inspirieren. Wir lernen indoor, outdoor und im virtuellen Raum. Alle Bildungsangebote werden in Zusammenarbeit mit internationalen Partner:innen aus verschiedenen Bereichen und mit einem interdisziplinären Lehrenden-Team (Wissenschafter:innen, Ausbildner:innen, Expert:innen) erarbeitet und angeboten.

Forschung
Schutzgebiete haben sich zunehmend zu Modellregionen entwickelt, sowohl für den Erhalt der biologischen Vielfalt als auch für eine gerechte und nachhaltige Entwicklung. UNESCO-Stätten wie Biosphärenreservate, Welterbestätten und Geoparks basieren auf den Zielen und Werten der UNESCO und stehen in direktem Zusammenhang mit ihnen. Dadurch sind diese Gebiete zu Lernorten geworden, an denen internationale Politiken und Standards in reale Kontexte übertragen werden.
Daraus ergeben sich wichtige und spannende Forschungsfragen, mit denen sich der UNESCO-Lehrstuhl für nachhaltiges Management von Schutzgebieten befassen soll.
- Schutzgebietsforschung mit Schwerpunkt auf UNESCO-Welterbestätten, UNESCO-Biosphärenreservaten, UNESCO-Geoparks, Natur- und Nationalparks sowie Natura-2000-Gebieten
- Wissenschaftliche Begleitung und Begleitforschung zur Planung, Einrichtung und zum Management von Schutzgebieten und Schutzgebietssystemen
- Angewandte Naturschutzforschung mit Schwerpunkt auf Biodiversität, globalem Wandel, Ökosystemleistungen und natürlichen Prozessen
- Angewandte Forschung und Entwicklung von Naturschutztechnologien, -konzepten und -standards
- Wissenschaftliche Begleitung von Nachhaltigkeitsprozessen in Organisationen, Regionen und Staaten
Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt soll auf transdisziplinären und transkulturellen Forschungsdesigns, neuen Methoden und neuen Technologien sowie fairen Formaten der Citizen Science liegen. Die Forschungsaktivitäten des Lehrstuhls sollen dazu beitragen, Schutzgebiete auf lokaler, nationaler, regionaler und globaler Ebene zu stärken. UNESCO-Stätten und UNESCO-Programme sollen unmittelbar von den erweiterten Kapazitäten, Forschungsergebnissen und Erfahrungen profitieren, die im Rahmen der Arbeit des Lehrstuhls gewonnen werden.

UNESCO Chair Brownbag Session – „Mittagessen mit uns“
Naturschützer:innen sollen niemals allein essen. Der UNESCO-Lehrstuhl für nachhaltiges Management von Schutzgebieten an der CU Hochschule Kärnten lädt Partner:innen und Freund:innen zum Mittagessen ein.
Jeden Mittwoch treffen wir uns zur Mittagszeit (12:30 Uhr MEZ) virtuell mit unseren Brown Bags. Unterschiedliche Vertreter:innen von Grassroots-Initiativen, internationalen Organisationen sowie aus der Wissenschaft geben kurze Impulse zum Naturschutz im 21. Jahrhundert und bereichern unsere Diskussion zur Mittagszeit.
