Electrical Energy & Mobility Systems
The master’s program in Electrical Energy & Mobility Systems (EEMS) is designed for individuals who wish to help shape the technological foundations of the energy and mobility transition. It combines electrical energy systems, battery technologies, power electronics, electric drives, and smart mobility solutions into an application-oriented program. As a result, EEMS clearly positions itself as a specialized interface between electrical engineering, energy engineering, and electromobility.
New Focus
The focus is no longer solely on electric mobility, but on the entire technical chain of modern electrical systems: energy is generated, stored, converted, distributed, and used for vehicles and smart grids. EEMS therefore provides both the technical foundation and the ability to develop, analyze, and optimize complex energy and mobility systems.
The program is taught entirely in English, comprises 120 ECTS credits over four semesters, and leads to a Master of Science in Engineering degree. It takes place on the Villach campus and is organized to be compatible with professional commitments.
Key Areas of Focus
- Battery Systems and Energy Storage: modern battery technologies, battery management, electrical storage systems, and their application in vehicles, grids, and energy storage facilities.
- Electric Drives and E-Mobility: Electrical Drives, Powertrain & Traction, eDrive Control, and Automotive Systems for efficient and sustainable mobility solutions.
- Power Electronics and Energy Conversion: Converters, power electronic systems, and energy-efficient drive solutions—key technologies for electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and energy storage.
- Energy Systems and Smart Grids: Integration of renewable energy, measurement and monitoring systems, and intelligent, interconnected power grids.
- AI and Digitalization: The use of artificial intelligence for data analysis, optimization of energy flows, and automated decision-making processes in energy and mobility applications.
- Systems and Control Engineering: Modeling, simulation, and control of complex systems in energy and mobility applications.
Practical Experience, Research, and Career
The Electrical Energy & Mobility Systems master’s program combines scientific methods with concrete industrial challenges. Students work on laboratory, simulation, development, and research projects and complete a research internship. In the fourth semester, the program concludes with a master’s thesis.
Graduates can pursue careers in fields such as electric mobility, the automotive industry, energy supply, battery systems, charging infrastructure, renewable energy, power electronics, and research and development. Typical career paths include Battery Development Engineer, Energy Systems Engineer, E-Mobility Engineer, Power Electronics Engineer, Electric Drive Engineer, or R&D Engineer.
Brief Profile
Electrical Energy & Mobility Systems is an English-language, practice-oriented master’s program for anyone interested in developing battery systems, electric drives, power electronics, smart energy systems, and sustainable mobility solutions. The program combines energy, mobility, and digitalization—and specifically prepares students for leadership roles in the electrification of industry, energy, and transportation.
