The European Universities Initiative (EUI)
The European Universities Initiative (EUI) is a pioneering initiative of the European Commission that promotes forward-looking, transnational university alliances aimed at establishing long-term (over 10 years), structural and strategic cooperation in education, research, innovation and external partnerships.
Higher education institutions, their members and the surrounding regions benefit from these alliances in many ways, particularly through innovative and high-quality teaching projects, stronger international networking, enhanced reputation at the national and international levels and much more.
The main objectives of the EUI are:
- To promote European values and identity
- To strengthen the competitiveness of the European higher education area
- To spur institutional change at participating universities
- To improve the knowledge economy, employment, creativity, culture and social welfare through new teaching methods and educational pathways
CU Carinthia University and the EUI

CU Carinthia University is a founding member of the EU-funded Applied, Connected, Entrepreneurial, and Engaged European University Alliance (ACE²-EU) and is thus one of five Austrian universities of applied sciences that are part of this key European educational initiative.
This participation underscores the international competitiveness of CU Carinthia University. As a key milestone in our internationalization strategy, it will contribute significantly to the further integration of our university into the European Higher Education Area and to enhancing its appeal as a center for education and research.
ACE2-EU
ACE²-EU brings together nine European universities and their regional partners to jointly tackle future challenges and drive sustainable social change.
Through application-oriented teaching, research, innovation and collaboration, new solutions for digital, environmental and societal transformation are emerging.
ACE²-EU offers students and staff numerous opportunities for education, continuing education, and networking at all participating universities. Local and regional partners are actively involved in the planning and implementation of projects and initiatives and can therefore use ACE²-EU as a gateway to Europe.
The Office for European Universities
The Office for European Universities (EUO) is a project office based on the Villach campus and serves as a coordination and liaison center between CU Carinthia University and its alliance partners. It ensures smooth coordination and reliable communication among the universities with regard to project implementation. The office thus plays a key role in implementing the internationalization strategy of CU.
Project Management:
Planning, implementing and overseeing all activities and initiatives. Ensuring alignment with the alliances’ visions and goals and maintaining high-quality standards for the activities carried out.
Mediation:
Exchange and dissemination of information about opportunities to participate in initiatives in both directions (within the university and with alliance partners), as well as experiences and best practices from other alliances; sharing of visions and knowledge about the European Universities Initiative (EUI).
Mobilisation:
Strengthening the active participation of students, staff and regional partners in ACE²-EU to jointly advance the development of CU Carinthia University as a networked, European institution of higher education.
