Robotic & Mechatronic Systems (RMS)

Developing Intelligent Robotic Systems for the Industry of Tomorrow

The Robotic & Mechatronic Systems (RMS) specialization within the Systems Design master’s program combines robotics, mechatronics, embedded systems, automation technology, and artificial intelligence into a holistic systems engineering approach. Students learn to develop intelligent machines and autonomous systems that integrate mechanical, electronic, and software-based components into high-performance systems.

The focus is on modern robotic systems that can sense and analyze their environment and react autonomously to changes. In addition to the fundamentals of robotics, sensor technology, control engineering, and drive systems, students explore artificial intelligence, industrial automation, smart manufacturing, and the development and integration of complex mechatronic systems.

There is a special emphasis on practical application: In laboratories, development and research projects, and through a research internship, students work on real-world challenges from industry and research. The master’s thesis can be conducted in collaboration with companies or research institutions.
This program is designed for graduates of technical bachelor’s programs—such as mechatronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automation technology, or systems engineering—who wish to specialize in robotics and intelligent technical systems.

Graduates are qualified to develop robotics and automation solutions, integrate AI-based systems, and analyze and optimize complex mechatronic systems. Typical career paths range from automation and systems engineer to AI and robotics engineer or research and development engineer. Opportunities are particularly abundant in the robotics industry, mechanical and plant engineering, automation technology, the automotive sector, and research and development.

In short: Robotic & Mechatronic Systems is an application-oriented specialization for anyone who wants to design intelligent robotic systems, autonomous machines, and innovative production solutions with a focus on robotics, AI, and automation.

More information will be available at the ONLINE Master’s Session on November 23.
