The IARA (Institute for Applied Research on Ageing) research center is dedicated to applied research on aging at the Faculty of Health & Social Sciences at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences. Its focus is on the challenges and opportunities of an aging society. IARA combines expertise in the social sciences, economics, and technology to develop interdisciplinary solutions to socially relevant issues related to aging. The three departments work closely together, bringing their diverse disciplinary perspectives to bear.

Guided by the principle of application-oriented, participatory, and transdisciplinary research, the IARA develops practice-oriented research projects and collaborates regionally, nationally, and internationally with partners from politics and public administration, business, academia, and civil society. Scientific findings are made accessible to policymakers, the business sector, and civil society, while also informing the practice-oriented teaching at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences. In this way, the Institute for Applied Research on Ageing links research on an aging society with concrete societal issues and application-oriented solutions.

Three key research areas at the IARA Research Center:

  1. Lifestyles, Inclusion, and Social Participation
  2. Labor Market, Consumption, and Economic Development
  3. Healthy Aging and Technological Support
