No, all the necessary foundational knowledge is taught in the Occupational Therapy Program. However, an interest in medical, social science, and health-related topics is an advantage.

How practical is the Occupational Therapy Program?

A practical focus is a central component of the Occupational Therapy Program. In addition to practice-oriented courses, students complete several internship phases both in Austria and abroad, gaining valuable professional experience in the process.

When do the internships start, and where do they take place?

The first internship phases begin as early as the third semester of the Occupational Therapy Program. Internships can be completed in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, outpatient clinics, educational and social service facilities, and other occupational therapy settings.

Can I do an internship abroad?

Yes, the Occupational Therapy Program supports and encourages internships abroad to enhance international experience as well as professional and intercultural skills.

Who do occupational therapists work with?

Occupational therapists work with people of all ages and with a wide range of functional needs – from children and adolescents to working-age adults and older adults.

Where can I work as an occupational therapist after I graduate?

Graduates of the Bachelor’s program in Occupational Therapy work in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, outpatient clinics, health and social service agencies, educational institutions, and private practices, among other places. In addition, career opportunities are available in academia, research, and project development, as well as in innovative areas of the healthcare sector.

What are the career prospects?

Occupational therapists are in demand in numerous areas of the health and social services sectors. Due to societal developments such as demographic change, the need for occupational therapy services is steadily increasing.

Can I specialize after I graduate?

Yes, after earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy, students have access to a wide range of continuing education and professional development opportunities, as well as Master’s Degree Programs. Specializations are available in areas such as child and adolescent health, neurology, geriatric health, hand therapy, mental health, and other fields.

What role do digitalization and artificial intelligence play in this program?

Digital technologies are also becoming increasingly important in occupational therapy. In the Occupational Therapy Program, students explore digital health applications and learn to engage with artificial intelligence in a reflective manner.

How much are the tuition fees?

For EU/EEA citizens and Swiss nationals, the tuition fee is € 363.36 per semester. For students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland, the tuition fee is €500 per semester. In addition, all students pay a small fee for the Austrian Student Union each semester (€ 26.20 in the winter semester 2026/27).
