What does Advanced Nursing Practice (ANP) mean?
Advanced Nursing Practice refers to an expanded nursing role that combines evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, and coordination tasks. As an Advanced Practice Nurse, you support people with complex health needs, promote their health literacy, and work closely with other healthcare professionals to sustainably advance care.
What is primary care?
Primary care involves providing the population with local, continuous, and comprehensive health care. The goal is to support people early on, strengthen health literacy, prevent illness, and ensure the best possible care through collaboration among various health care professionals. This master’s program specifically prepares you for this responsible role.
What requirements do I need to meet to enroll in the master's degree program?
To be admitted, you must have a bachelor’s degree in health and nursing or an equivalent degree, as well as a diploma in health and nursing. Whether your degree meets the admission requirements will be assessed as part of the application process.
Can I apply even if I have a degree from a foreign university?
Yes. Applications from candidates with an equivalent degree from a recognized domestic or foreign postsecondary educational institution are accepted. During the application process, we will verify whether your degree meets the admission requirements.

How does the application process work?
Applications are submitted online. Once you have submitted your application, your documents will be reviewed. If you meet the admission requirements, you will receive further information about the admissions process and the next steps.
Is it possible to pursue this degree while working?
Yes. The master's program is designed to be pursued while working and combines in-person instruction with online and blended learning modules. This allows you to balance your studies and career effectively and apply what you learn directly to your day-to-day work.
What topics can I expect to cover in my degree program?
The program combines content from nursing science, the social sciences, and organizational studies. Key areas of focus include Advanced Nursing Practice, Community and Family Health Nursing, Public Health, Case and Care Management, Leadership, Quality Management, as well as e-health and assistive technologies. In addition, you will engage in applied research and evidence-based nursing.
What role does practical training play in university?
There is a special emphasis on combining theory and practice. Case- and project-based learning, as well as simulation training, prepare you for complex clinical situations and help you apply scientific knowledge to your daily professional practice.
In what language are classes taught?
Most courses are taught in German. In addition, some courses are offered in English, particularly those on international topics such as public health, community health nursing, or leadership.
What skills will I develop during my studies?
You will deepen your expertise in nursing science, research, digital technology, and communication. At the same time, you will develop skills in leadership, project management, interprofessional collaboration, and evidence-based decision-making, and take on responsibility for the further development of primary care.

Where can I work after I graduate?
After earning your master’s degree, a wide range of career opportunities will be open to you—for example, in primary care settings, group practices, as a community health nurse in local communities, in the public health sector, in discharge planning, as a freelance nursing expert, or in research and development.
Can I start a doctoral program after completing my master's degree?
Yes. Upon successful completion, you will meet the requirements for a doctoral program in accordance with § 6 of the FHStG. This opens the door to both professional careers and academic careers.
How does this master's program differ from a traditional nursing program?
While a bachelor’s degree degree program lays the foundation for a career in advanced nursing, this master’s program deepens your professional, academic, and organizational skills. You will develop into an Advanced Practice Nurse, assume expanded responsibilities in primary care, and actively help shape care processes and the further development of professional nursing.
How long does the program take?
The master's program lasts four semesters and is worth a total of 120 ECTS credits.
