What are the admission requirements for the Healthcare and Nursing Degree Program?
To be admitted to the Bachelor's Program in Healthcare and Nursing, you must have a general university entrance qualification or an equivalent qualification. For the practical training components, you must also provide proof of the immunizations listed on the immunization record.
How can I get enrolled in the Healthcare and Nursing Degree Program?
You can start the Bachelor’s Program in Healthcare and Nursing as a regular student or – depending on your prior nursing training – enter the Program through a lateral entry track. What financial support is available for the Degree Program?
Various financial aid options are available to students in the field of Healthcare and Nursing. These include the scholarship from the Kärntner Sparkasse Private Foundation, the Federal Government’s Nursing Scholarship, the LAND Kärnten Nursing Training Grant , and the Humanomed Scholarship.
Which vaccinations are required for the Degree Program?
For the practical training components, proof of the immunizations listed on the immunization record is required. The immunizations that must be documented are specified in the immunization record for the Healthcare and Nursing Program.
What qualifications will I earn by completing the Healthcare and Nursing Program?
Upon successful completion of the Program, you will be qualified to practice as a certified Healthcare and Nursing Professional. In addition, you will receive the Academic Degree: Bachelor of Science in Health Studies (BSc).
What can I expect to learn during the Degree program?
The Healthcare and Nursing Program combines nursing, medical, scientific, communication, and legal fundamentals with a significant practical component. About half of the program takes place directly in the workplace, enabling a continuous integration of theory and practice.
Will I be gaining practical work experience while studying?
Yes. Internships are an essential part of the Healthcare and Nursing Degree Program and a requirement for professional licensure. About half of the training takes place directly in the workplace.
What skills will I develop during my studies?
In the Healthcare and Nursing Bachelor’s Program, you will develop skills related to the individual, the organization, and society. These include, among other things, core nursing competencies, skills in diagnosis and treatment, collaboration within a multiprofessional team, and health promotion and prevention.
What kind of responsibilities will I take on after I graduate?
As a licensed Healthcare and Nursing Professional, you will perform professional nursing duties, work as part of a multidisciplinary care team, and make independent nursing decisions based on scientific evidence.
Can I continue to specialize after completing my Bachelor's Degree?
Yes. After completing the Bachelor’s Degreein Healthcare and Nursing, students can pursue specializations in accordance with the Healthcare and Nursing Act, as well as additional graduate-level continuing education programs to deepen their professional expertise.
What specializations are available?
Specializations are available in the fields of pediatric and adolescent nursing, psychiatric health and nursing care, anesthesia and intensive care, palliative care, renal replacement therapy, and operating room nursing.

I completed an apprenticeship as a nursing assistant and would like to study Healthcare and Nursing. How long does the Program take?
With your training as a nursing assistant, you can enter the second semester (in March) of the full-time Bachelor’s Program in “Healthcare and Nursing.” (Subject to approval by the Program Director,) some of the courses you have completed as part of your training will be recognized. Any missing exams must be made up before you transfer into the Program. Upon successful completion of the Program, you will graduate with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) after 2.5 years of study. Alternatively, you have the option to enter the regular 3-year Program and apply for various credits from your nursing assistant training. This allows you to continue working as a nursing assistant while pursuing your studies.
I completed an apprenticeship as a certified nursing assistant and would like to study Healthcare and Nursing. How long does the program take?
With your training as a nursing assistant, you can enter the 3rd semester (always starting in the fall) of the full-time Bachelor’s Program in “Healthcare and Nursing” once you have completed the bridging course (for a fee) and passed the corresponding exams. Alternatively, you can enroll in the regular 3-year Program and apply to have various credits from your nursing assistant training transferred. This allows you to continue working as a nursing assistant while you study.
I don't have a high school diploma and would like to become a certified Healthcare and Nursing Professional. How can I go to college without a high school diploma?

I am a certified registered nurse who completed my training abroad. How can I recognize or have my training accredited?
The recognition process determines whether a foreign educational qualification is equivalent to the Austrian qualification in Certified Health and Nursing Care (DGKP). If there are significant differences, additional exams or training will be required. These will be prescribed by the Program Director following an evaluation. Recognition of qualifications from the EU and EEA countries is also handled by our Competence Center.
I wasn't born in Austria, or I earned my high school diploma in another EU country or a non-EU country. What documents do I need to provide?
The nostrification process determines whether a foreign educational qualification is equivalent to the Austrian qualification in Certified Health and Nursing Care (DGKP). If there are significant differences, additional exams or training will be required. These will be prescribed by the Program Director following an evaluation. Recognition of qualifications from the EU and EEA countries is also handled by our accreditation office.
