From Nursing Training to a Bachelor's Degree
Changing Careers to Pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare and Nursing
Professional qualifications as a PA, PFA, or DGKP can be taken into account when pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare and Nursing. Below is an overview of admission requirements, language proficiency, compensatory exams, and the respective entry pathways.
Career Change Program - Care Assistant (PFA)
Requirements and Application
- Successful completion of the admissions process for the Healthcare and Nursing Program. See the “Application” section for details.
- German is the language of instruction, and proficiency in German (at least at the B2 level) is required.
- If you have a general university entrance qualification (high school diploma or university entrance qualification exam), you meet the admission requirements for the program directly.
- If you do not hold one of these credentials, you must demonstrate English proficiency at the B2 level. This can be done with the following certificates or exams:
- IELTS (overall score of at least 6.0)
- TOEFL (minimum 86 or 4.5 points total)
- Cambridge Certificate (at least 170 points per subject)
- Vocational Maturity Exam in English
- University entrance exam in English
- English exam in the university entrance qualification program at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences
Please note that proof of English proficiency must be submitted by March 15th at the latest!
Check with your employer to see if they will cover the costs (currently 800 euros) for the compensatory course.
Currently, the following exams must be taken:
- Qualitative and Quantitative Research (2 ECTS)
- Advanced Nursing Process (1 ECTS)
- Pharmacology: (1 ECTS)

Career Change Program - Certified Health and Nursing Professional
Requirements and Application
The Certificate Program enables licensed Healthcare and Nursing Professionals to enter the 6th semester of the regular Bachelor’s Degree Program in Healthcare and Nursing.
The upgrade program involves completing a part-time, fee-based Certificate Program to earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Studies (BSc). Upon completion of the Certificate Program, you may enter the 6th semester of the “Healthcare and Nursing” Bachelor’s Program, during which you must attend and successfully complete required courses totaling 10 ECTS credits.
- With a general university entrance qualification (high school diploma or university entrance exam), you directly meet the admission requirements for the Program.
- If you do not hold one of these qualifications, you must demonstrate English proficiency at the B2 level. This can be done with the following certificates or exams:
- IELTS (overall score of at least 6.0)
- TOEFL (minimum 86 or 4.5 points total)
- Cambridge Certificate (at least 170 points per subject)
- Vocational Maturity Examination in English
- University entrance qualification exam in English
