Midwifery BSc - Bachelor's Degree
Midwives bear a central responsibility for the health and well-being of mothers and their children – in the Bachelor’s Program at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, you’ll acquire the skills to independently support, advise, and care for families during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.
The Midwifery Bachelor’s program combines in-depth knowledge of obstetrics, medicine, and health sciences with intensive practical training. Starting in the very first semester, you’ll gain experience in clinical and non-clinical settings and gradually develop the skills required for a career as a midwife.
Hands-on experience from the very first semester
From the very beginning, you’ll gain hands-on experience in delivery rooms, postpartum units, and out-of-hospital settings. You’ll also gain insights into the fields of gynecology and neonatology. Internships in every semester of the Midwifery Program directly connect your theoretical knowledge with everyday professional practice.
Well prepared for both clinical and non-clinical settings
The midwifery program prepares you for both hospital-based practice and independent practice as a midwife. You will learn to provide independent care to women and families while collaborating with other healthcare professionals in an interprofessional setting.
Learning with state-of-the-art simulation
Modern SkillsLabs and simulation rooms allow you to practice procedures, communication, and emergency situations safely and realistically during your midwifery program before applying them in a clinical setting.
Professionally supporting the miracle of life.
Support families during one of the most important phases of their lives.
Special Features of the Program
Scientifically grounded. Personally supported.
The Midwifery Program at CU combines medical and scientific expertise with intensive practical training. In addition to obstetrics and women’s health, the program focuses on communication, social skills, and providing individualized support to women and families.
Consciously Developing Social Skills
Midwives support women and families during a formative phase of life. That’s why, during your studies, you’ll receive targeted training in counseling skills and conflict management, and you’ll learn how to respond professionally to different family structures and needs.
Interprofessional Training for Emergencies
In the fifth and sixth semesters, you’ll practice responding to realistic emergency situations alongside students from other health professions. These interprofessional simulations specifically prepare you for collaboration in everyday clinical practice.
Flexibly Balancing School and Work
As part of the Study & Work program, you have one day off from classes each week. In addition, some courses are offered online. This makes it easier to balance your studies with part-time work or a long commute.
Perspectives Beyond the Delivery Room
This Degree Program doesn’t just prepare you for work in a hospital or as a freelance midwife. After completing your Bachelor’s Degree, you’ll also have the option to pursue career paths in teaching and research, as well as continue on to a Master’s Program.
Vaccination Recommendation
To complete the required professional internships in healthcare facilities, full vaccination coverage is required in accordance with the current vaccination recommendation issued by the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care, and Consumer Protection for healthcare personnel. This is to protect patients, fellow students, and staff. Students who cannot provide proof of the recommended vaccinations may not be assigned an internship or may only be assigned a limited number of internship placements, which could result in a longer duration of study. CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences provides support in clarifying individual cases.
