Admission to the Bachelor's Program in Social Work

Are you interested in studying Social Work at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences? Here you’ll find all the information you need about admission requirements, the admissions process, and how to apply.

The admissions process is designed to get to know you. It is not an exam and does not test your knowledge. We’re interested in your motivation, your communication skills, and your willingness to engage with social issues.

What requirements do you need to meet?

To be admitted to the Bachelor's Program in Social Work, you must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • General university entrance qualification (e.g., Matura)
  • University entrance qualification exam or vocational maturity exam
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g., graduation from a relevant vocational high school or completion of a relevant vocational training program with a supplementary exam)

You must also have the following language proficiency:

  • German: C1 (automatically met if German is your first language)
  • English: B2

If you have not yet received your graduation documents at the time of application, you may submit them after a successful admissions process, up until the start of the Program.

How the admission process for the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Social Work works

  1. Apply Online 
    Upload your cover letter and resume via the application portal and complete your application.
     
  2. Online Group Assessment Center
    After we review your application materials, you’ll receive an invitation to an online assessment center via Microsoft Teams.

    To help you prepare, we’ll send you a short newspaper article. During the group session, you’ll introduce yourself to the other applicants and discuss the preparatory article together.

    This isn’t about right or wrong. We want to get to know you and see how you communicate, present your arguments, and reflect on social issues.
     
  3. Feedback
    After the assessment centers for an admissions cycle are completed, you’ll receive written feedback within the following weeks.

Good to know

The admissions process is not an exam.

Many applicants feel nervous before the admissions process for the Bachelor’s Program in Social Work. You don’t need to be. The focus is on your motivation for the Program, your communication and critical thinking skills, and your interest in social issues. There is no knowledge test.

Frequently asked questions about admission to the Bachelor's Program in Social Work

  • Do I need to prepare for the assessment center?
    Yes. Before the appointment, you’ll receive a newspaper article that will serve as the basis for our discussion.
     
  • Is there a knowledge test?
    No. The assessment center is intended solely for us to get to know each other. We won’t be testing your subject knowledge.
     
  • Do I need to upload all my transcripts already?
    No. Any missing final transcripts can be submitted after a successful admission process, up until the start of the Program.
