The Master’s program in Digital Construction Management is designed for graduates of a relevant bachelor’s program as well as professionals in civil engineering, architecture, and related disciplines who wish to actively shape the digital transformation of the construction industry.
In addition to technical knowledge, analytical thinking, the ability to work in a team, and an interest in digitalization, sustainable solutions, and modern management methods are important prerequisites. Since the program is designed to be pursued while working, self-motivation, organizational skills, and good time management are also advantageous.
Here's what you'll learn during your studies
In the Digital Construction Management master’s program, you’ll deepen your expertise in the areas of digitalization, construction project management, and sustainable infrastructure. You’ll learn to apply modern technologies in a targeted manner, support transformation processes, and efficiently plan, manage, and develop construction projects throughout their entire lifecycle.
- Developing Digital Construction Processes
You’ll explore Building Information Modeling (BIM), artificial intelligence (AI), and other digital methods, and learn to plan, coordinate, and optimize construction projects using data-driven approaches. In addition, you’ll explore modern approaches such as Lean Construction and develop strategies for efficient and collaborative construction processes.
- Taking a Holistic View of Sustainability
Sustainability is a central component of the program. You’ll learn to integrate lifecycle-based requirements, sustainable infrastructure, CO₂ reduction, and ecological, economic, and social aspects into construction projects and to develop solutions that are viable in the long term.
- Successfully supporting transformation Digital tools only realize their full potential through the people who use them. That’s why you’ll develop skills in change management, interdisciplinary collaboration, and project management, and learn to confidently guide teams and organizations through digital transformation processes.
- Study Internationally and with a Practical Focus The joint degree program combines the expertise of CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences and Bochum University of Applied Sciences. Online instruction, in-person block weeks in Austria and Germany, and a close connection to construction practice enable flexible and application-oriented education at an international level.

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be qualified to take on positions of responsibility in digital construction project management, BIM and digitalization strategy, as well as sustainability and project management. “Digital Construction Management” Master’s Degree Program
Who is this degree program suitable for?
The program focuses on construction and real estate sciences–ranging from civil engineering and architecture to real estate management and industrial engineering. The emphasis is on digital literacy throughout the entire life cycle of a property–from development to operation.
What prior knowledge do I need?
Basic knowledge of software, IT, and BIM is required. No specific prior knowledge is required; if necessary, individual recommendations for training courses, summer schools, or further reading can be provided.
How many weeks of in-person classes are there?
During the first two semesters, there is one on-campus week in Carinthia (Spittal) and one in North Rhine-Westphalia (Bochum). This brings the total to four on-campus weeks with in-person instruction.

DCM Curriculum
The modular structure combines online instruction with on-campus block weeks in Austria and Germany, enabling a flexible and practice-oriented education. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and engagement with the industry, graduates are well-equipped to take on leadership roles in the construction industry. They are able to apply digital methods in the planning and implementation of real estate projects and to drive the transition toward sustainability.
Joint Degree Program
in Digital Construction Management

The digital transformation in the construction industry requires professionals who not only possess technical expertise but are also capable of efficiently managing complex projects. The part-time master’s program in Digital Construction Management teaches precisely these skills and prepares students to actively shape the construction industry. The program comprises 90 ECTS credits and three semesters.
The program focuses on the use of digital tools and processes to optimize the construction process, the application of AI-supported methods, and the management of construction projects in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements. The three-semester master’s program was developed in collaboration between Bochum UniversityofAppliedSciences and CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences and is structured around online components and on-campus intensive weeks, which take place in Bochum, North Rhine-Westphalia (DE), and Spittal an der Drau, Carinthia (AT).

PREREQUISITES
Language of instruction: German (min. C1)
Knowledge equivalent to at least 15 ECTS credits in one of the following areas is required:
- Architecture
- Civil Engineering
- Environmental Engineering,
- Renewable Energy Systems,
- Industrial Engineering Sustainable Development
- Sustainable Real Estate Management
If this is not the case, 20 ECTS credits may also be drawn from two different fields.
