During the program, you’ll deepen your expertise in digital construction project management, Building Information Modeling (BIM), artificial intelligence (AI), and sustainable infrastructure. You’ll learn to plan, optimize, and successfully implement digital processes throughout the entire life cycle of construction projects, as well as to confidently lead interdisciplinary teams through transformation processes.
The three-semester joint-degree master’s program offered by CU University of Carinthia and Bochum University of Applied Sciences combines online instruction with on-campus block weeks in Austria and Germany. This allows you to optimally balance your studies and career while benefiting from the expertise of two universities and an international network.
With your degree, you’ll be qualified for leadership roles in digital construction project management and will actively help shape the transformation of the construction industry–from digitalization and sustainable processes to the successful implementation of complex construction projects.
1 Degree Program – 2 Campuses – 3 Semesters
The joint master's degree program offered by CU and Bochum University of Applied Sciences combines international expertise with a compact, three-semester study model. On-campus intensive weeks in Austria and Germany complement the online instruction.

In principle, the program is also compatible with full-time employment–provided you have discipline, personal commitment, and good coordination with your employer.

BIM is a tool for digital transformation. It focuses on management skills related to the use of digital technologies, analytics tools, and artificial intelligence.

The digital transformation is fundamentally changing the construction industry. In the Digital Construction Management master’s program, you’ll develop the skills needed to successfully integrate digital technologies, sustainable strategies, and modern project management. You’ll learn to efficiently plan, manage, and develop construction projects throughout their entire life cycle.
Holistically Manage Digital Processes
You’ll work with Building Information Modeling (BIM), artificial intelligence (AI), and other digital methods to efficiently plan, coordinate, and optimize construction projects throughout their entire lifecycle. In addition, you’ll learn about approaches such as Lean Construction to make processes more transparent, collaborative, and cost-effective.
Thinking Strategically About Sustainability
Today, sustainability encompasses far more than just energy-efficient construction. During your studies, you’ll explore life-cycle-based requirements, the reduction of CO₂ emissions, sustainable infrastructure, and the social and economic aspects of modern construction projects.

Digital tools only realize their full potential when people use them effectively. That’s why you’ll develop skills in change management, interdisciplinary collaboration, and collaborative work methods. Language of Instruction: German (min C1)
Applicants must have at least 15 ECTS credits in one of the following fields: Architecture, Civil Engineering, Environmental engineering, Regenerative energy systems, Industrial engineering, Sustainable development, Sustainable Real Estate Management. If this is not the case, 20 ECTS credits can also be taken from 2 areas.

“Digital Construction Management” Master’s Degree Program
Who is this degree program suitable for?
The program focuses on construction and real estate sciences–ranging from civil engineering and architecture to real estate management and industrial engineering. The emphasis is on digital literacy throughout the entire life cycle of a property–from development to operation.
What prior knowledge do I need?
Basic knowledge of software, IT, and BIM is required. No specific prior knowledge is required; if necessary, individual recommendations for training courses, summer schools, or further reading can be provided.
How many weeks of in-person classes are there?
During the first two semesters, there is one on-campus week in Carinthia (Spittal) and one in North Rhine-Westphalia (Bochum). This brings the total to four on-campus weeks with in-person instruction.
The hands-on training provides an excellent foundation for a personalized career in the field of construction. The 4-month professional internship during the bachelor’s program gives you the opportunity to get a taste of your future career while you’re still in school. Guest lectures by companies and field trips directly to construction sites give you the chance to connect with potential future employers and can serve as a springboard for your future. The practical curriculum and interdisciplinary projects throughout the program provide excellent preparation for your career start.

On Foot
From the Spittal-Millstätter See train station, you can reach the campus in about 15 minutes on foot (1.2 km). The route takes you along Bahnhofstraße, past the city park and Porcia Castle, across the main square, and through the archway toward Villacher Straße.
By public transportation
The campus is accessible from the Spittal-Millstätter See train station via bus lines 11, 120, or 180 to the “Spittal/Drau Zentrum” stop, or by bus line 12 to the “Spittal an der Drau Mittelschule” stop, followed by a walk of about 7 minutes.
By car
Coming from the north, take the Spittal Nord/Millstätter See exit on the A10 Tauern Autobahn and drive along the B98 Millstätter Straße and B99 Katschberg Straße toward Spittal Zentrum.
Coming from the south or east, take the Spittal-Ost exit on the A10 Tauern Autobahn and follow the B100 Drautal Bundesstraße toward Spittal Zentrum.
If you’re coming from the west, you can reach the campus via the B100 Drautal Bundesstraße toward the city center.
The campus is located on Villacher Straße, right next to the Lieser Bridge.
By Air
There are several airports in the area:
- Klagenfurt: approx. 1 hour drive
- Ljubljana (Slovenia): approx. 1 hour and 30 minutes by car
- Graz: approx. 2-hour drive
- Salzburg: approx. 2-hour drive
- Trieste and Venice (Italy): approx. 3 hours’ drive
- Vienna: approx. 4-hour drive
- Munich: approx. 4-hour drive
The onward journey to the Spittal campus is then by train, bus, taxi, or car.
