From Landscape Gardener to Architect

Elias Molitschnig, M.Sc., Specialist in Spatial Planning and Municipal Construction | Office of the Carinthian Provincial Government

For Elias Molitschnig, studying architecture at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences was much more than just professional training. It helped him develop his own perspective on architecture, society, and building culture. In particular, his focus on social housing, regional identity, and rural development shaped his subsequent career path and continue to form the foundation of his work to this day.

Even while still a student, he gained valuable practical experience at renowned architectural firms both in Austria and abroad. Today, he works for the Carinthian State Government in the areas of municipal construction, building culture, community development, and downtown revitalization, supporting municipalities with challenging construction projects. In addition, he passes on his knowledge to the next generation as a lecturer at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences and at other universities.

Looking back, he particularly values the intensive guidance, the strong practical focus, and the open collaboration with the faculty. His conclusion: A degree in architecture not only imparts technical skills but also instills a sense of responsibility to actively and sustainably help shape living spaces.
