Exchange Semester at CU 

An exchange semester at CU Carinthia University offers you the opportunity to gain international experience, expand your academic knowledge and discover new perspectives. 

The course catalog helps you plan your exchange semester at CU Carinthia University. Here you’ll find up-to-date information on degree programs, courses, ECTS credits, contact persons, and student and campus life. This will help you prepare for your studies and choose your courses effectively.

Course Offerings 

Please note that incoming exchange students must complete courses totaling at least 15 ECTS credits. For organizational reasons, please select courses from only one Degree program and one semester – this ensures that there are no schedule conflicts between courses. If you are visiting us during the winter semester, please select courses only from one of the following semesters: 1st, 3rd and 5th. If you are visiting us during the summer semester, please select courses only from one of the following semesters: 2nd, 4th and 6th. You can find the courses under the “Current Courses” menu item for the respective Degree program.

This application process is intended for students who would like to study at CU Carinthia University for one or two semesters.

Please upload your Learning Agreement and Application Form during the application process. Please download the documents first before you begin filling them out! Incomplete applications will not be processed!

Nomination for an Exchange Semester

The home university must nominate students for an exchange semester at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences either via the EWP dashboard or by email.

Nomination emails must be sent by the home university to international(at)cuas.at and must include the following information:

  • The student’s first and last name
  • Field of study
  • Level of study (Bachelor’s or Master’s)
  • Preferred exchange period (winter or summer semester)
  • Email address
  • Please also indicate whether the student has any special needs or requires support.

Deadlines

Winter Semester: 
The winter semester runs from October 1st through January 31st (exams may still take place during the first two weeks of February).
Nomination deadline: May 15th
Application deadline: May 30th 

Summer Semester:
The summer semester runs from March 1st through June 30th (exams may still take place during the first two weeks of July).
Nomination deadline: November 16th

Scholarships for Incoming Exchange Students

 

This is a one-semester or one-year scholarship for studies at CU Carinthia University. The call for applications is primarily aimed at non-European countries.

Applicants must be enrolled at a university in their home country. To apply for the scholarship, students need a “Letter of Acceptance” from CU Carinthia University. Applications are submitted through the International Office as incoming exchange students. The Learning Agreement must show a minimum of 15 ECTS credits.

The Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation awards a scholarship to students enrolled at a U.S. university (in technical fields) who are planning a research project at CU Carinthia University. A detailed call for applications is issued twice a year (in October and March). Interested students in technical fields should contact the International Office at CU (contact: international(at)cuas.at). An internal committee decides which applicants will be nominated for the scholarship based on the criteria (scientific preparation, academic progress, and evaluation by the supervisor). Incomplete applications will not be processed. Applicants will be notified of their nomination via email.

The final decision on awarding the scholarship rests with the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation. Decisions are made in May and December. The scholarship is awarded in amounts ranging from € 3,000 to € 6,000, depending on the duration of the stay and the scope of the research.

Requirements:

  • The stay must last at least 3 months
  • Take place during the academic year (including summer break)
  • The U.S. university does not need to be a partner university of CU Carinthia University
  • The stay must be organized by the students themselves – a supervisor must be available
  • Must be at least 7,500 words in length (seminar papers, bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD theses are acceptable)

Virtual Mobility

Virtual mobility at CU Carinthia University enables students from partner universities to participate in digital learning activities by gaining access to individual courses or modules and completing them online. It offers the opportunity to gain international experience without having to travel, while also developing digital and intercultural communication skills.
