Admission & Enrollment

Are you interested in pursuing the Master’s degree program in Social Work: Developing and Shaping at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences? Here you’ll find all the information you need about admission requirements, the admissions process, and how to apply. The admissions process is designed to get to know you–not to test you. We want to learn what motivates you and what goals you hope to achieve through this program.

What requirements do you need to meet?

To be admitted, you need

  • a completed bachelor's degree in a relevant field or
  • an equivalent degree from a recognized domestic or foreign university.

In addition, language proficiency at the B2 level in German and English is required.

If you are currently in your final semester of your bachelor’s program, you can apply now. You can submit your bachelor’s degree certificate by the start of the program.

Here's how the admission process works

  1. Apply
Online Upload your statement of purpose and resume to the application portal and complete your application. If you have not yet completed your bachelor’s degree, you can submit your diploma later.

  2. Personal Admission Interview
After reviewing your documents, we’ll invite you to a personal interview on the Feldkirchen campus. You’ll receive a preparation sheet in advance. The interview lasts about 30 minutes and is intended for us to get to know each other. There is no knowledge test. The focus is on your motivation, your interests, and your plans for your master’s program. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the program.

  3. Feedback
Once the admission interviews are complete, you’ll receive written feedback on the outcome shortly thereafter.

Here's what to include in your cover letter

Use your cover letter to give us an impression of who you are and what your goals are.

Among other things, describe:

  • why you want to pursue this master’s program,
  • which topics interest you most,
  • what your career goals are,
  • what skills you already have and would like to develop further,
  • what community or social engagement has shaped you.

Still working on your bachelor's degree? No problem.

You can apply as early as your final semester of your bachelor's program. To apply, all you need for now is your current transcript of records. You can submit your degree documents by the start of the program.

Are you coming from a related field?

It is generally possible to enter the program from a different field. If you begin the master’s program with a bachelor’s degree in a related field and later wish to use the professional title “social worker,” you must, in accordance with the Social Work Professional Titles Act (SozBezG 2024), earn an additional 60 ECTS credits from the bachelor’s program in Social Work. The relevant course content is based on the Austrian Qualifications Framework for Social Work.

Recognition of Work Already Completed

Coursework completed as part of a prior program of study may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and, if applicable, credited. To do so, you’ll need the relevant module or course description, as well as proof of successful completion. A designated committee will decide on the credit transfer.
