The Internship—Learning by Doing

A particularly important component of the curriculum for the bachelor’s program at the Faculty of Business & Management is the professional internship. In the sixth semester, students work at companies and public-sector institutions. The tasks and projects are closely related to the student’s chosen field of study. Through the professional internship, students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have acquired in a practical setting and expand their skills “on the job.”

A mandatory requirement for a successful internship is the largely independent execution of projects, supported by a mentor at the respective workplace. During the internship, each student also has access to a faculty member with practical experience who serves as a personal point of contact. This “backup” ensures that students can draw on subject-matter expertise whenever questions arise.

The tasks completed and experiences gained during the internship often lead to a topic for the student’s thesis. In addition, students establish important initial contacts with potential employers. It is also not uncommon for the internship to result in a concrete job offer.
