Civil Engineering BSc
Bachelor's Program
Would you like to plan, design, and build structures while actively shaping the future of construction? Then the bachelor’s degree program in Civil Engineering is the perfect fit for you.
During the program, you’ll learn how buildings, bridges, roads, and other structures are planned, designed, and successfully built. You’ll delve into structural design, structural analysis, building construction, construction management, and economic and technical fundamentals, and develop a solid understanding of the entire construction process–from the initial idea to completion.
Practical projects, lab exercises, field trips, and a professional internship will allow you to apply your knowledge early on in real-world projects. At the same time, you’ll learn about the use of modern technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), digitalization, and artificial intelligence, and develop skills for sustainable and future-oriented construction.
Your degree will open up a wide range of career paths–from planning, project management, and construction supervision to research or a master’s program.
AI and Digitalization
Building Information Modeling (BIM), artificial intelligence, and digital planning are now integral parts of modern civil engineering. During your studies, you will learn to apply these technologies in a practical setting and use them for planning, design, and construction processes.
Learning in Your Own Construction Lab
In the state-of-the-art construction laboratory, you'll work with the latest testing and measurement technologies and gain practical experience in research, materials testing, and construction engineering while you're still a student.
Start directly in the 3rd semester
With an HTL diploma in the construction engineering track, you can–after successfully completing the admissions process–enter directly into the 3rd semester and shorten the duration of your studies.
Are you ready to help shape the future of construction?
Then start your degree in civil engineering and develop the skills to plan and build structures that are safe, sustainable, and forward-looking.
Special features of the program
Civil engineers shape the built environment of tomorrow. During your studies, you’ll combine technical expertise with business acumen, digital technologies, and sustainable solutions. From the very beginning, you’ll work on a project-based basis and learn to plan and build structures that are safe, cost-effective, and forward-looking.
Projects Every Semester
In civil engineering, practical experience is a central focus right from the start. Starting in the second semester, you’ll complete a project every semester that builds on your current level of knowledge. The program is supplemented by lab exercises, field trips, and a professional internship in the fifth semester, allowing you to continuously apply your theoretical knowledge to real-world problems.
Developing Better Structures Together
Successful construction projects are the result of teamwork. That’s why, even while you’re still a student, you’ll collaborate with architecture students and gain exposure to different perspectives on planning, construction, and design. This interdisciplinary collaboration provides you with the best possible preparation for your future career.
Sustainable and Cost-Effective Construction
How are buildings created that are safe, durable, and resource-efficient? During your studies, you’ll explore sustainable building materials, energy-efficient designs, and economic and technical decisions that take into account a building’s entire life cycle.
Gain International Experience
Whether it’s a semester abroad, international research projects, or the European University ACE2EU—during your studies, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to gain international experience, discover new perspectives, and expand your network beyond Austria.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about the Bachelor’s Degree Program in
“Civil Engineering”
What is the difference between civil engineering and architecture?
Architects design buildings, while civil engineers ensure that they are safely planned, constructed, and can be used over the long term. During your studies, you’ll learn about both perspectives.
Do I need a strong background in math or physics?
Mathematics and physics form the foundation of civil engineering. With a high school diploma, you’ll have the necessary prerequisites and can deepen your knowledge as needed through refresher and bridge courses.
What software will I learn to use during my studies?
During your studies, you'll work with professional software solutions such as AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, Revit, and MATLAB. This way, you'll become familiar with tools used in the construction industry while you're still in school.
