Who is the Master's degree program in Health Management designed for?

The master’s program is designed for graduates of a relevant bachelor’s or diploma program who already have professional experience in the health or social services sector and wish to gain specific qualifications for leadership, development, and management roles. It is suitable for anyone who wants to further develop organizations, facilitate change processes, and actively help shape healthcare.

Which bachelor's degree qualifies me to begin the master's program?

A prerequisite is a relevant bachelor’s or diploma degree. This includes, for example, degree programs in the fields of health and nursing management, health and nursing, nursing science, economics, management, occupational therapy, or midwifery. Whether your prior education meets the admission requirements will be assessed as part of the admissions process.

Can I complete the degree program while working?

Yes. The master's program is designed to be taken while working, allowing you to balance your studies with your career. Much of the course material can be applied directly in your own professional setting, thereby promoting the immediate transfer of knowledge into practice.

Do I need to have leadership experience already?

No. Professional experience in the health care, nursing, or social services fields is an advantage, but holding a leadership position is not a requirement. The program provides you with the skills you’ll need for future leadership and management roles.

What kind of coursework can I expect during my studies?

What specialization options are available?

You can tailor your degree program to your individual needs and choose among the required-elective modules in Nursing Management pursuant to § 65a GuKG, Advanced Management, and Business Start-ups and Entrepreneurship. This allows you to develop precisely the skills that align with your career goals.

Are there international opportunities during my studies?

Yes. In partnership with the Finnish JAMK University of Applied Sciences, Carinthia University of Applied Sciences offers a double degree program. International study weeks, English-language courses, and exchanges with students from other countries provide international experiences and open up additional career opportunities.

What career opportunities will I have after I graduate?

Graduates take on leadership, development, and management roles in the health care, nursing, and social services sectors. Potential fields of work include project management, organizational development, human resources management, quality and innovation management, health promotion, consulting, and research and development.

After I graduate, can I work outside of hospitals?

Yes. This degree program prepares students for careers in hospitals as well as in long-term care facilities, social service organizations, health insurance companies, consulting firms, research institutions, advocacy groups, and public institutions. This opens up a wide range of career paths throughout the health and social services sector.

After completing my master's degree, can I continue my studies or pursue a career in research?

Yes. The program provides students with academic skills for planning, conducting, and evaluating projects and research. In addition, successful completion of the program qualifies students to pursue doctoral studies in accordance with Section 6(4) of the FHG.
