From a Degree in Mechanical Engineering to a Management Position at Infineon

Mathias Male, Head of Equipment Design, Infineon Technologies Austria AGR

My studies prepared me for challenges I didn’t even know existed. That’s exactly what makes the difference.

Even while pursuing his bachelor’s degree in System Engineering with a focus on mechatronics, Mathias Male knew he wanted to further his professional development. That’s why he decided to deepen his knowledge by pursuing a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering–Lightweight Construction at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences.

Looking back, he describes the program as demanding but extremely enriching. He particularly remembers the close guidance from the faculty and the hands-on training. Even challenging subjects like thermodynamics and fluid mechanics were part of the curriculum. “With a lot of dedication and the support of the professors, even difficult challenges can be overcome.”

For his master’s thesis, Mathias deliberately chose a particularly challenging topic: the development of a high-temperature-resistant electrostatic chuck prototype for a plasma device. For him, this was the ideal opportunity to further his professional development and learn about new technologies.

Mathias has been working at Infineon Technologies Austria since 2009. He started there as an equipment design engineer and gradually worked his way up to head of equipment design. Today, his responsibilities include the further development of manufacturing equipment, the integration of new technologies such as industrial 3D printing, and the planning and implementation of technical solutions for production.

His conclusion is clear: “The practical focus of the program has helped me immensely in my day-to-day work. Those who remain curious, ask questions, and consistently apply their knowledge create the best conditions for a successful career.”
