Among other things, you will focus on climate change, biodiversity, renewable energy, sustainable mobility, the circular economy, and social change. In addition, you will acquire technical, economic, legal, and digital skills.

What role does data engineering play in college?

Data engineering is a central component of the program. You will learn to collect, store, analyze, and visualize sensor, environmental, and climate data, and to use it as a basis for sustainable decision-making.

Do I need any prior technical knowledge or programming skills?

No, programming skills are not a prerequisite. However, an interest in mathematics, science, technology, and data analysis is helpful. The necessary fundamentals are taught step by step during the program.

Is the program practical?

Yes, you'll work on realistic tasks through projects, exercises, and group work. The program is supplemented by field trips, outdoor exercises, and hands-on activities at the Villach campus.

Is a professional internship required?

Yes, in the 6th semester, you'll complete a 12-week mandatory internship. During this internship, you'll gain professional experience and apply your knowledge in a practical setting at a company or organization.

Can I choose my own areas of focus during my studies?

Yes, in the 5th semester, you’ll choose four out of nine elective modules. The options are:

In what language are the courses taught?

The entire Green Transition Engineering bachelor's program is taught in English. For admission, you must have English proficiency at least at the B2 level.

Does the program have an international focus?

Yes, with English as the language of instruction and collaboration within international teams, the program has an international focus. At the same time, you’ll explore global sustainability issues using specific regional and practical examples.

Can I study Green Transition Engineering while working?

The full-time program follows a fixed semester schedule. Classes are held primarily from Tuesday through Friday, though some may occasionally be scheduled on Saturdays. You can organize study periods, project work, and group assignments with some flexibility and adapt them to your daily academic routine.

How long does the program last, and what degree will I receive?

The bachelor's program lasts 6 semesters and comprises 180 ECTS credits. Upon successful completion, you will receive the academic degree Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSc).

You must have a general university entrance qualification, a suitable college entrance exam, or a relevant professional qualification along with the required supplementary exams. In addition, English proficiency at the B2 level or higher is required. Applications are submitted online via the CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences application portal.

What master´s programs can I pursue next?

A bachelor’s degree gives you access to relevant master’s programs at universities of applied sciences and traditional universities. At CU University of Applied Sciences Carinthia, for example, you might consider Applied Data Science or the professional master’s program in Management of Conservation Areas.

How much does it cost to attend college?

Tuition is €363.36 per semester, plus the applicable ÖH fee. For students from non-EU countries, tuition will be €500 per semester starting in the winter semester of 2026.
