for the Mechanical Engineering degree program

What should you bring to the program?

The bachelor’s program in mechanical engineering is designed for anyone who understands technology, wants to develop innovative solutions, and wishes to play an active role in shaping the world of tomorrow. An interest in mathematics, the natural sciences, and technical problems—as well as a willingness to work analytically and creatively—are particularly helpful.

No prior knowledge of mechanical engineering is required. The program is open to graduates of all types of high schools. To help you get started, CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences offers intensive preparatory courses in mathematics, physics, and computer science. Even without a traditional high school diploma, you can begin your studies through the appropriate legal admission pathways.

Here's what you'll learn during your studies

In the Bachelor’s program in Mechanical Engineering, you’ll combine the fundamentals of engineering with modern technologies and hands-on projects. You’ll develop technical products and machines, work with the latest CAD and simulation software, explore materials, manufacturing technologies, and automation, and learn to analyze and refine complex technical systems.

Even while you’re still in school, you’ll apply your knowledge in lab exercises, development projects, and collaborations with companies. This allows you to gain practical experience and develop the exact skills that are in demand in industry, research, and development.

What career options do you have after graduation?

With a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, a wide range of career paths is open to you. For example, you can work in product development, design, manufacturing engineering, automation, energy technology, or technical project management. Careers in research and development, as well as in quality and innovation management, also offer exciting opportunities.

If you’d like to further deepen your knowledge, you can pursue the Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering—Lightweight Construction at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences or complete an advanced Master’s degree in Engineering & IT at another college or university.

Here's how the program is organized

The bachelor’s program in mechanical engineering spans six semesters and is worth 180 ECTS credits. You can choose between a full-time program and a part-time program.

Throughout the program, you will deepen your knowledge in one of three specializations:

Manufacturing Engineering – modern production processes, automation, and additive manufacturing
; Energy Engineering – sustainable energy systems, fluid machinery, and drive technology
; Technical Design – engineering, product development, and CAD-based design
