CU Study Start Plus:
Gaining Additional Skills for Your Studies

The “CU Study Start Plus” are preparatory courses for prospective students in the School of Engineering & IT who want to refresh or deepen their knowledge of the natural sciences. By strengthening their knowledge in STEM subjects, students gain an additional skill set that helps them ease into daily campus life when they begin their studies.

DETAILS ABOUT THE PREPARATORY COURSES

HTL
Quality Partnership: Enrollment in the 2nd or 3rd Semester

HTL graduates can shorten their engineering and IT degree program by up to one year if they meet the admission requirements and pass selected entrance exams before the start of the program.

After successfully completing the Matura and passing the admissions process at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, students may enter the 3rd semester upon successfully passing the entrance exams.

Admission requirements include a grade point average of 2 or higher in the last two annual report cards (4th and 5th grades) as well as a letter of recommendation from the respective HTL.

Admission Requirements—Engineering & IT—for Individual Bachelor’s Programs:

Please submit your application materials for a bachelor’s degree program at the “Engineering & IT” Faculty—ideally ONLINE—and include your 4th- and 5th-grade transcripts. After reviewing your documents, we will contact you if individual courses or semesters can be credited toward your degree. You will then receive all the necessary information about the free Moodle preparatory courses, which will be offered starting in June, as well as the accompanying tutorials with the respective instructors.

Entrance exams are offered at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences during the first and second weeks of July and September, respectively. We offer free preparatory courses for these entrance exams on Moodle starting in June. We will register participants for the appropriate preparatory courses; all course materials are included in the free package:

  • Tutorials with the instructors
  • Sample exercises with sample exams
  • A discussion forum where questions can be asked online
  • 1–2 preparatory sessions held at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences to clarify questions about the course content

The required entrance exams must be passed before the start of the program.

Students who enroll in the first or second semester despite having prior knowledge are invited to work alongside the course instructors as coaches for students without prior technical knowledge. Upon request, the course can be credited or graded as “successfully completed.”

Students can begin the second semester after completing basic military service, and individual courses may be credited toward all bachelor’s degree programs in the “Engineering & IT” faculty.

CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences offers graduates of relevant technical HTLs throughout Austria the opportunity to enter any bachelor’s degree program at the “Engineering & IT” Faculty in the summer semester or to have individual courses recognized for credit. This is possible, for example, after completing basic military service.

Prospective students who meet the necessary subject-specific admission requirements do not need to take any additional exams. A lateral transfer is also possible for students who wish to transfer to CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences from another university.

Entry into the 2nd semester applies to the following bachelor’s degree programs:

A quality partnership has been established with the HTLS in Carinthia and the HTL Shkodra in Albania.

Graduates of these HTLs may enter the 3rd semester without taking additional exams if their grade point average is ≤ 2 (based on the 4th-grade annual report) and they have a recommendation from the respective department or homeroom teacher. Please include your 4th-grade annual report card with your application.
