Study content and requirements

for the Civil Engineering degree program

What should you bring with you for your studies?

The Master’s degree program in Civil Engineering is designed for graduates of a relevant bachelor’s program as well as prospective students with a related college degree. If you want to deepen your technical knowledge, help shape complex construction projects, and eventually take on responsibilities in planning, construction supervision, or project management, you’ll find the right foundation here.

In addition to a solid foundation in engineering, analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a team are essential. Equally important are an understanding of business, an interest in sustainable solutions, and a willingness to work across disciplines and take on responsibility.

Here's what you'll learn in university

In the master’s program, you’ll deepen your expertise in structural engineering, construction project management, and sustainable building. You’ll develop solutions to complex technical problems, work on real-world projects, and learn to provide technical and organizational support for construction projects from planning through implementation.

  • Developing Technical Solutions
You’ll explore modern structural and design solutions, material development, and innovative design principles. Depending on your area of specialization, you’ll expand your knowledge in structural engineering, building physics, construction technology, or construction processes and develop solutions for challenging construction projects.

  • Successfully managing projects
In addition to technical planning, economic, organizational, and legal aspects play a central role. You’ll deepen your skills in project management, develop leadership skills, and learn to implement complex construction projects efficiently and responsibly.

  • Targeted Use of Digital Technologies
Digital planning methods and artificial intelligence are becoming increasingly important in the construction industry. During your studies, you’ll apply modern technologies in design and project work and learn to efficiently use digital tools for the planning, optimization, and further development of structures.

  • Customize Your Specialization
Over the course of your studies, you’ll choose one of three areas of specialization: Design and Construction, Planning and Execution, or Construction Process Management. This allows you to tailor your studies specifically to your professional interests and career goals.

What's next after the master's degree?

Upon successful completion, you will be qualified for specialized and leadership roles in planning, design, construction management, project management, or research. At the same time, the master’s degree provides a solid foundation for the master builder or civil engineer examination, as well as for pursuing a doctoral degree.
