Study content and requirements
Network Engineering
What should you bring to the program?
If you’re passionate about modern technologies and want to understand how digital communication works, you already have a solid foundation. In the Network Engineering track, you’ll explore technical concepts and develop solutions for the digital networks of tomorrow.
The following are particularly helpful:
- An interest in science and technology
- Logical thinking skills
- An enthusiasm for innovative developments
- Good English skills
- Curiosity and a willingness to work independently
Here's what you'll learn during your studies
This program combines traditional network engineering with modern software development and provides you with the technical expertise needed to design and operate digital communication systems. In addition to a solid foundation in electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, and physics, you’ll explore cutting-edge technologies and develop practical solutions for modern networks.
Developing Software and Connecting Systems
You'll learn how to develop software, design networks, and operate communication systems. At the same time, you'll explore app development and modern network architectures.
Understanding Current Communication Technologies
During your studies, you’ll work with technologies such as 5G mobile communications, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), software-defined networking (SDN), and optical communication networks. This will allow you to develop expertise in technologies that are shaping the future of digital connectivity.
Setting Individual Priorities
Starting in the third semester, you can deepen your knowledge in specific areas. To do so, you can choose from required electives such as Data Science, Mobile Systems Development, and the Internet of Things (IoT). This allows you to develop a personalized skill set.
Experience the Real World
A mandatory professional internship in the sixth semester bridges the gap between your studies and professional practice. The program is supplemented by project management as well as courses in business administration and foreign languages.
What opportunities will you have after you graduate?
This bachelor’s program opens up a wide range of career paths in information technology. At the same time, you’ll lay the groundwork for a master’s degree in engineering and IT—such as the English-language master’s program in Communication Engineering at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences or at another university.
