Industrial Power Electronics
Master's Degree Program

The energy transition, electrification, and smart energy systems are changing the demands placed on industry and creating a growing need for highly qualified experts in the field of power electronics. The English-language master’s degree program in Industrial Power Electronics at CU Carinthia University of Applied Sciences prepares you to actively shape these developments and create innovative solutions for tomorrow’s energy supply.

You’ll deepen your knowledge of modern power electronic components and systems, as well as their industrial applications. In the process, you’ll engage in the design, modeling, and simulation, control, and development and testing of smart systems for efficient energy conversion.

The program combines scientific fundamentals with hands-on laboratory work and projects in collaboration with industry partners. At the same time, you’ll develop skills in research and development, strengthen your international communication skills, and qualify for challenging roles in a forward-looking field of technology.

Important Note: Starting in the 2027/2028 winter semester, the Industrial Power Electronics master’s program will be continued as the “Power Electronic Systems” track within the Systems Design master’s program. The program’s core content and competencies will remain unchanged and will be integrated into the new program.

Wherever energy flows, power electronics is behind it.

In the Industrial Power Electronics master’s program, you’ll deepen your expertise to develop intelligent systems for industry, energy technology, and mobility.

Special features of the program

Power electronics is a key component of modern energy and drive systems. In the Industrial Power Electronics master’s program, you’ll deepen your technical expertise and explore cutting-edge technologies, scientific methods, and industrial applications. In the process, you’ll combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on development work.

Developing Modern Power Electronics

You will work with modern power electronic components and systems—from concept development and circuit design to modeling, simulation, control, and testing of intelligent systems for efficient energy conversion.

Working Scientifically

In addition to your technical training, you will develop scientific skills—ranging from literature reviews to the systematic formulation of problems and the development of solutions, all the way to publishing your own findings.

A Focus on Current Technologies

The curriculum covers topics such as power semiconductors, industrial drives, e-mobility, smart power electronics, and electromagnetic compatibility, among others, and prepares you for the industry's current demands.
